Rats are the most popular rodents that enter homes. Rodents are clever and agile, they move easily on walls and facades. Most often we can find them in basements, attics and garages. The rat can also roam the sewage pipes, so scared household members often meet unwanted rodents in toilets. What do rodents look for in our home? Above all, food and shelter. In the autumn-winter period, rodents seek shelter from low outside temperatures, so they sneak cleverly into the house under the floor, the attic or the garage. Particularly suited to them are utility rooms in which they find food residues, e.g. for animals. How to get rid of rats?
Signs of rat presence
How do you know that an unwanted guest has settled in our household? If we notice food leftovers, disturbed stocks of our food, bitten wires, cables, damage to wooden elements or droppings, we can assume that the culprit is a rat. It can often happen that we face the new tenant face to face. Then we are sure that it is necessary to take appropriate action. Why?
Rats are often large – 20 to 30 cm plus tail – and breed very quickly. If we allow this, in a short time the population of these animals in our household will increase to several dozen individuals. Secondly, the rat will not leave the place where it is well and has food. The source of food for him can be not only our pantry, but also the waste that we throw into buckets, the yard, etc.
How to get rid of rats?
Traps – in traps on rodents (also on mice) we leave a treat that is to lure an intruder. When the animal is tempted and reaches for food, the trap mechanism is activated and kills the animal. In this case, we will have to get rid of the rodent’s corpse, which is not a nice duty. It should also be remembered that the arrangement of the traps should be thought out so that it not only gives the chance to lure the rat, but also does not pose a threat to children, dogs or cats.
Poisons – these are agents that cause rat death after ingestion. They are prepared in such a way that they seem appetizing to them, but in fact they contain killer substances for rodents. At the same time, they contain bitter benzoate denatorium, which will reduce the risk of human consumption. Here, as in the case of traps, it is likely that the poison will also be attractive to our pets, so it should be exposed in places inaccessible to our pets.
Deratization – if we have not managed to fight the pests ourselves or we simply do not want to deal with it, we can outsource this task to a professional company. What’s more, specialists will not only get rid of rats, but also protect our property against their reappearance. Each company has developed and effective methods in this field.
